How to play
- Click (or tap) an empty cell to open it. The first click is always safe.
- The number on an open cell is the count of mines among its up-to-eight neighboring cells.
- When you're sure a cell holds a mine, place a flag with a right-click (or a tap in flag mode, or a long press on mobile).
- Tapping an open number again triggers a chord: when the adjacent flag count matches the number, the remaining cells open all at once.
- Open every cell without a mine to win. Opening a mine ends the game.
Frequently asked questions
What are the rules of Minesweeper?
It's a game where you open every cell except the mines hidden in the grid. The number on an open cell is the count of mines among its eight neighboring cells, and you use those numbers as clues to deduce where the mines are.
Can the first click blow up a mine?
No. Mines are placed only after the first click, and none are put on the cell you open first or the eight cells around it, so you always start safely.
Can it be solved without guessing?
Beginner and Intermediate boards are verified to be solvable all the way through by logic alone (guess-free guarantee). Advanced and Expert follow the traditional rules, so a guess may rarely be needed — and hints prioritize cells that logic can confirm.
What is chording?
When the number of flags around an open number cell matches that number, tapping the cell again opens all its remaining neighbors at once. It's handy for moving quickly.
Where are my records saved?
Your progress and records are saved only in your browser (localStorage), not on any server. They reset if you switch devices or clear your storage.
What is the daily puzzle?
It's generated from the date, so on any given day everyone worldwide takes on the exact same board. The fun is comparing your finishing times.
